What is Allergy?
Allergy is the body's reaction to a foreign substance--such as pollen or pet
dander, dust mite etc . Below are some common foreign substances
which may cause allergy. When foreign substances such as pollen cause allergic reactions, they are called
allergens.

Some common allergens:
- pollens
- molds
- house dust
- dust mites
- bee stings
- medications, both prescription and over-the-counter
- foods
- animals
- air pollutants

When these allergens come in contact with the body, it may not
seems to bothered you at first. But over time, with repeated exposures,
the body grew overly sensitive to it, thus resulting in some allergy symptoms.
Let's us look at some of the common symotoms.
Common Symptoms
- watery eyes
- running nose.
- itching
- swelling
Allergens cause cells in your body to release chemicals known as mediators, which trigger allergy symptoms. These mediators include
histamine and prostaglandins.
Histamine is the mediator that stimulates mucus production and causes redness, swelling and inflammation.
Prostaglandins are mediators that constrict airways and enlarge blood vessels.
