Paxil is a prescription medication that is going to help you alter your mood and enhance your feelings about life, stress, and problems that you may have in life. Paxil is an antidepressant that you will take for a few weeks before you notice real changes in your mood.

How to take Paxil
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the patient leaflet provided with this medicine and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Take this medicine exactly as directed by your health care provider. This medicine may be taken without regard to food. Symptoms usually improve within 1 to 4 weeks. Continue taking your medicine even though you feel better. This medicine may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Do not take this medicine if you are currently taking or have taken an MAO inhibitor within the last 14 days. If you are uncertain whether your other medications contain an MAO inhibitor, check with your health care provider. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your doctor. Stopping this medicine suddenly may cause certain side effects, such as dizziness, nausea, sweating, agitation; abnormal skin sensations, and abnormal dreams. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medicines without talking with your doctor. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. Contact your health care provider at once if you feel you have taken too much of this medicine.

| Paxil Side
Effects
Nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, diarrhea, trouble sleeping, constipation, or dry mouth may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly.

Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: loss of appetite, unusual or severe mental/mood changes, increased sweating/flushing, unusual fatigue, uncontrolled movements (tremor), decreased interest in sex. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: blurred vision, changes in sexual ability, painful and/or prolonged erection, change in amount of urine. |
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: fainting, irregular heartbeat, muscle pain, trouble swallowing, unusual swelling, seizures, easy bruising or bleeding, tingling or numbness of the hands/feet. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

| Precautions
of Paxil
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: liver problems, kidney problems, seizures, heart problems, other mental/mood disorders (e.g., bipolar disorder), thyroid problems, any allergies. This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. Caution is advised when using this product in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This drug passes into breast milk. Because of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using this drug is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Interactions of Paxil
Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine; you are currently taking or have taken a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor within the last 14 days; you are currently taking thioridazine.

Paxil
Paxil is equally effective in elderly depressed patients as it is in younger patients. Paxil is effective in the treatment of anxiety which accompanies depression in some people. Those experiencing lethargy at the beginning of treatment can also take Paxil with positive results because Paxil does not impair psychomotor function.

| Missed
Dosages of Paxil
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Store between 59 and 86 degrees F.
